Willington Parish Council comments sent in on the following Preferred Options sites:
Question 2
MD12 - Octagon Farm North
We agree with the identification of site MD12.
Being an extension to existing workings, the use of this site would cause minimal disturbance, and negate the need to transport material over a long distance by HGVs using the public highway to the processing plant.
Use of the national cycle route should not be impeded in any way.
Question 8
MD3 - Willington Lock and MD8 - Willow Hill Farm
We object to the inclusion of both sites.
Close to residential properties in Barford Road, Sandy Road and Mill Farm, causing disturbance by noise and dust pollution.
There are safety issues transporting material by road to the processing plant causing an increase in HGV traffic on the A603 and Barford Road, if westerly via the busy 'Fiveways Junction' at Willington Cross Roads, pedestrian crossing in Bedford Road, and junction of the A603 and Balls Lane, Willington. Concerns on existing traffic issues have been identified in the Willington Parish Plan 2006.
Disturbance to use of the popular national cycle route and other leisure pursuits at Willington Lock (MD3).
Question 9
MD3 - Willington Lock and MD8 - Willow Hill Farm
If permitted, other means of transporting material for processing should be looked at, possibly using conveyors and dump trucks via a route north of Elstow Brook, as proposed in the planning application already permitted at Dairy Farm, Renhold. If the use of HGVs is allowed, Willington Parish Council would be looking at a contribution towards road safety improvements from the minerals extraction body prior to any movements taking place, together with a 30mph speed limit imposed on any roads used, and adequate signage warning traffic of vehicles turning into and out of the sites.
We would insist on noise and dust reducing measures to protect properties nearby, with an effective buffer zone to minimise the visual impact, and possible planting of semi-mature trees around the site prior to commencement of any workings.
The cycle route should be preserved and relevant safety precautions put in place during workings.
Question 14
MD30 - Land North of Bedford Road, East of Willington
We agree with the rejection of site MD30.
This site is considered to be too close to residential properties, the working of which would cause loss of quality of life and stress to local inhabitants.
There are also traffic issues which would cause concern in transporting the material to the processing plant.
Question 17
MD31, MD32, MD33, MD34, MD35, MD39, MD47 - Sites South of Willington
We agree with the rejection of sites MD31, MD32, MD33, MD34, MD35, MD39, MD47.
This site would intensify operations near residential areas, causing disturbance by noise and dust pollution considered unacceptable.
HGV movements to and from the site would be an additional safety hazard on an already busy road" |
