Launch of Willington Heritage Trail |
Less than two years after being formed, members of Willington Local History Group are proud to announce the launch of their Heritage Trail leaflet, and Timeline display, two of several projects utilising grant funding from the National Lottery Fund through the Local Heritage Initiative, with support from Lafarge Aggregates and others. The official launch of the Heritage Trail Leaflet and Timeline display will take place at 2.30pm on Sunday 24 June 2007 by Alistair Burt M.P, at the National Trust Stables, Church End, Willington near Bedford. There will be an opportunity to set off on one of the featured walks in the Heritage Trail leaflets yourself. The Timeline is on three large panels and describes significant events in the history of Willington from The Iron Age to the present, in an easily readable format. The free Heritage Trailleaflet, available on the day or from Danish Camp, The Crown P.H., Frosts Garden Centre, Post Office & Stores, and Direct Garden Supplies in Willington, plus Tourist Information Offices and libraries in Bedford and Sandy, encourages people to walk around the village discovering historical facts about the many interesting buildings listed with the aid of a map and colour photographs. Starting at the famous Dovecote in Church End, one of only two National Trust owned buildings in Bedfordshire, there is a choice of circular walks of between 1.5 to 2.5 miles depending on the route chosen. Several refreshment facilities are situated in the village enabling you to recuperate afterwards! |
