CRIME ALERT
Don't become complacent
FREE SECURITY SURVEYS
With house burglaries being raised as a priority we are raising the awareness of FREE security surveys available from your Safer Neighbourhood Team. If you would like us to conduct a survey on your home please contact us on the details below.
- When leaving your house don’t forget to double lock your doors and ensure that you haven’t left any windows open.
- Consider leaving a radio on to make it look like someone is at home.
- Keep keys, handbags, laptops etc. out of sight and mark valuables with ultra violet pens.
- Report any suspicious activity to the police.
- Use security chains and invest in security lights.
- Lock gates, sheds and garages.
POLICE SURGERIES
The next surgery dates are:
The police will be walking around the village on Thursday 13th May and Thursday 10th June in Willington and Cople between 2.00pm and 3.30pm
This is a village walkabout surgery so if you would like to be called on specifically just contact us beforehand or just pop over if you see us.
Parishioners are invited to discuss any problems or concerns you have with them
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
As residents in Willington you will soon be recieving and invite to a Neighbourhood Watch Startup Meeting. We have not confirmed a date or time as yet, this will be shown in the invitation. We would like to re-ignite interest and see a NHW established in every road, for the benefit of all residents in the village.
NHW has been operating successfully in Bedford and the surrounding villages since 1983. Not only is it usual for crime to decrease in NHW areas but the community spirit often rises too. NHW is run by the community and has full support of the Police.
If you would like to note your interest in becoming a street co-ordinator, come along to the meeting or contact us direct on the details below. We look forward to hearing from you.

• Helping to reduce crime and the opportunities for crime
• Reassuring those who live in fear of crime
• Encouraging community spirit
• Increasing awareness and vigilance of residents
• Closer liaison between residents and the police

There will be a short video on Home Security and a brief update on crime in the area from our local Safer Neighbourhood Police Officer.
RINGMASTER
Ringmaster is a computerised crime messaging system run by Bedfordshire Police which offers local residents, Neighbourhood Watch members, businesses, farms, and Bedfordshire Police’s partners, throughout Bedfordshire, details about crime and events in their local area.
- The service is free to everyone.
- You don’t need to be involved in Neighbourhood Watch to join Ringmaster.
- You can receive information via email direct to your computer, view your messages online, or receive messages via phone at a time to suit you.
- Receive crime reduction advice and help tackle crime in your local area
Currently we have 8,000 members of the public and other partner agencies registered on the system.

In response to a number of requests, we have decided to institute a community calendar, to be published in the Willington Villager and on the web-site for 6-12 months at a time.
